Overview:
The Technical Lead provides professional expertise and support, working in direct collaboration with the project design teams in competently implementing the requirements of individual projects. The Technical Lead owns the overall design of structural components and brings technical expertise to improve deliverables. The Technical Lead mentors and coaches the rest of the design team on technical skills and execution in order to comprehensively elevate team deliverables.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Serve as Engineer of Record for team projects, as assigned.
2. Lead Sprint Planning for team projects
a. Define appropriate milestone strategy, defining Acceptance Criteria for each sprint. Collaborate with Project Manager to get all info into project planning.
b. Analyze scope to determine and itemize project backlog.
c. Manage backlog to determine appropriate milestone divisions / deliverable iterations that will meet project schedule, scope, and budget requirements.
3. Provide technical mentorship to team members.
a. Lead the team through technical problem-solving for difficult tasks of assigned projects.
b. Remain up to date on new technical advances in the industry
c. Ensure an ever-progressing body-of-knowledge across the team for excellent completion of deliverables.
d. Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders and subject matter experts to establish and drive the technical vision and analyze trade-offs between loading, layout, and constructibility (etc).
4. Prepare structural calculations and construction documents that meet quality standards.
a. Manage the information that goes into the drawing and model
b. Lead systems selection and layout
c. Set lateral and gravity system design expectations. Review / participate in design as needed to ensure quality deliverables.
5. Manage quality of projects and serve as technical lead for a team
a. Schedule and ensure completion of internal scoring, QC and QA processes for all projects; incorporate feedback. Collaborate with Project Manager to ensure fulfillment of all quality activities.
b. Conduct load, layout, and constructibility reviews prior to scoring.
c. Conduct Sprint Plan QC.
d. Ensure the form and content of design outputs, their interfaces and verification procedures are in accordance with the defined processes and standards.
e. Directly responsible for the technical content and quality control on specific projects, as established with Principal-in-Charge or Team Manager.
6. Oversee and Manage Construction Administration Phase.
a. Review and approve of contractor change orders, submittals and RFI’s as outlined in QMS.
b. Ensure CA log is complete and up to date.
7. Participate and Execute Continuous Improvement Activities
a. Participate in continuing education.
b. Participate in material groups; update and improve standards and best practices.
c. Growing proficiency in material, market and project types
Experience Education and Licensure:
1. Bachelor’s degree required.
2. MS degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management (structural engineering preferred)
3. SE Required
4. 5+ years of experience in the structural design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood frame structures
